| OK, we bought a bred Jersey heifer for the wife. She's due June 1 (Jersey, not the wife) and we got her 3 weeks ago. The dairy that raised her fed her distillers grain, but here she won't touch grain. She sniffs at it and walks away. I've tried oats and corn and no luck with either. Heifer is in excellent shape and eats alfalfa and hay, but I've never seen a critter refuse grain. We'd like to get her eating grain as it's an excellent bribe when you want the animal to cooperate plus she'll need a hotter ration after calving. She's not spooky or wild, just seems finicky. We haven't tried molassis yet, but I'm considering it. Any thoughts appreciated! |
