Subject: RE: Energy vs Food

East Troy, WI

This is a good time to interject that the farm gate price of a balanced, basic ration of legume and cereal meal required to feed an adult ~2200 calories a day is around $50 in 2014.  It take the average US farmer 15 minutes to produce sufficient calories for a person, and the carrying capacity of most non-arid acres exceeds 20 persons per acre.    These are my own calculations.    Everything above this price is "value" added and thermodynamically inefficient, including dairy, meat, nearly every vegetable crop, and food processing.

I will be the first to admit - I would get pretty tired of corn/wheat/bean flour based entrees.
