Subject: RE: Today in the Ukraine

The difference I see from Serbia 1914 is that the whole freakin world can tune into this with a few clicks right now.  The events leading up to war in 1914 were pretty much beyond the knowledge of more than a few dozen people in any country involved until mobilizations started en masse.  It has occurred to me after reading a boatload of military history, that if the 'peasant class' for lack of better terms, who did much of the fighting and dying, had been able to talk to their distant cousins in France/Germany/Britain/Belgium/Russia etc. on Facebook a hundred years ago, they would have been completely skeptical about going to war.  There is that little corner of Europe where they will never quit hating each other, though.
