north central iowa | Many have dismissed these projections and I am inclined to dismiss them also. If they have any accuracy at all, we are in for a tough time. I am ready for the return to low margin farming. Not because I don't like making money, but because I think that costs of production have escalated in conjunction with prices and if margins would shrink then input costs would follow. The ensuing adjustment period would allow those who are positioned correctly to take advantage of the downturn. Maybe I should be careful what I wish for, but decisions I made in the late 80s paved the way for high profitability the last few years. | |
