Subject: RE: Self feeder/Steer stuffer---DIY??

Sandy Hook, MB

Hello Jake NEIA

I built 1 about 12 or 15 years ago. I used a plan that I got from the Ag office on farm buildings, only I used 6" x 4" x 0.250" steel tubing for the skids instead of wood. It holds about 200 bushels.

Addition: I used mine to finish cattle, the lazy man's way. A round bale of poor quality grass hay in a feeder for some fibre & rolled barley in the self feeder.  I think that I had 30 head in the pen. Using a self feeder is a lot different than feeding in the bunk. When the feed is in front of them all the time there is no crowding to get to the feed. There might be 6 or 8 head at the most eating at 1 time. Not like the mad dash when they hear me coming with the mixer to fill their bunk.

Reason for edit: Addition.
