| We have a 100 cow spring seasonal dairy herd and that is my leading cause of death. In late winter , when they are heavy with calf, I'll find cows bloated. They ALWAYS have their feet up the hill from their body. I think they just lay wrong on the side of a hill or even on a partial eaten round bale. When they go to get up, they can't rock themselves, end up on their side and bloat. If I find them in time, I just roll them and they are usually fine and don't seem to do it again. If I don't find them, they are dead. I'm a big believer in survival of the fittest or smartess ! You can't live with them. Ron | |
