Silage that's 10% protein (on a drymatter basis) should be that low because it has lots of starch in it.........in otherwords corn silage. If it's not corn silage and has a 10% protein analysis, then you need to know more. If it's coastal bermuda, 10% might be some OK haylage. Johnsongrass........at 10% isn't much other than bedding that they can sort through and pick out the leaves before they lay on the rest.

So it depends............First thing is to get a good analysis or at least find out if it's 10% protein on a drymatter basis or wet/as fed basis (which may not be possible). Like others have pointed out, really need an analysis and might want to purchase a few tons to try it with the cattle that are going to be eating it.
