Beresford, SD | I had to put a calf down today. Was a chronic that had not been responding to various treatments. I knew this am that it would not make it through the day......late afternoon I thought I would just end its suffering.........I HATE THIS PART OF THE JOB! I have one other "chronic" in the corral that seems to be pulling through..........More than likely will wait until it eats another $200 of feed and gets at least two more shots and then will die the first HOT day this spring......But, never give up - RIGHT?! Feeling good about the calves, the one today was the second dead out of 1208 head of bawl babies. Best start ever, but its still a long road before they walk up the chute. | |
