I understand that there is some fungal disease that is hitting the red/black oaks.  I have one that is dead and the other is dieing.  Will be coming down in the next few weeks as it is too close to the house.  Accoriding to a neighbor that has been in the development for many years, about 90% of the red/black oaks have died here.  I hope to plant more white oaks which don't have the same problem.  Of course, I'll never get to reap the benefits......
