Ray gave some good commentary.  Pretty hard to compare what just happened in propane to raising livestock, though.  Even a hog guy with bred sows could look out several weeks ahead and say, this corn market is going to eat my lunch, what can I do to cut my losses and survive a bit longer?  If the propane tank heating your house is dry and it's 9 below with 30 knot winds and your pipes are going to freeze tonight if you don't get a hundred gallons of gas, you really don't have much flexibility in your decision-making process.
