Subject: Re: Predator drone helps convict North Dakota farmer

NE ND
I live about 10 miles from the Brossarts. The drone was used in hopes of catching Rodney away from his farm stead. He and his family had been holed up in their house with guns after the initial confrontation. Border Patrol offered the service, local law did not request it. Rodney has had numerous run ins with the law and has ties to posse comitatus. Local police feared this incident was going to come down to a shoot out with Rodney and his family. Rodney is a smart fellow. He knows just how far to go and not get into to much trouble. In this incident Rodney had his son's out there with guns but he never had one. I think farmers using drones are opening up troubles for themselves. The public has no idea that drones are being used by farmers. When the public realizes it there will be lots of privacy issues. What if you are scouting a field that has a farmstead on it with someone else living there. How will you prove you were only scouting a field and not spying on neighbors? Edit-- He is only serving a couple months, rest was suspended.
