The sheep eat a variety of greens that grow in the desert. I was told they can go a month without water. The Ocotillo's are setting leaves and I suspect they were down from the high country feeding on them, mountain lions migrated into this area some years ago and almost decimated the Big horn sheep. But I was told the Fish and Game division of Arizona eradicated the cats from this area and it's great to see more sheep now along with some lambs. I understand that the Fish and Games gives almost no tags for hunting the sheep in this area until the numbers come back up. I got some of my information from a warden I met out the desert while I was riding my quad. The link below should have information on the Ocotillo's
