southern MN | I assume down where you are, the ground doesn't freeze up much, and a snow like this would melt into your soil?
The reality is, our soil is froze a foot to 4 feet deep, this year with the small snow cover we have and cold temps might get closer to 5 feet deep, when the snow melts in spring it just runs off like it would run off a paved parking lot and does little for the crop land. Need to wait for the frost to come out of the ground.
Now sure it is moisture dont get me wrong, but the bulk of it goes to the low spots or the creeks and does little for any of the higher crop ground.
We rely upon April rains to charge up our ground.
