SD/ND/FL | The price of shares has rallied from $1,200 to $1,500. Unless I'm missing something, only those with no land cost and no stock cost have a chance at making any money growing beets in '14 assuming sugar prices don't stage a material rally.
No 16 sugar is trading at slightly over $.21/lb which is down $.05/lb from ACS' projected average sales price for the '13 crop of $.26. Based on the analysis I've done, this equates to a $28-30/ton payment next year.
Assuming NO family living draw, NO land cost, and NO stock cost the U of MN put the average cost of production on sugar beets in 2012 at $950/acre (seed cost is likely up $30/acre since then). Breakeven yield @ $30/ton = 31.7 tons/acre
Assuming $25/acre in family living, $125 in land cost, and still NO stock cost the cost production is approximately $1,100. Breakeven yield @ $30/ton = 36.7 tons/acre. A 24 ton crop would yield a $380/acre loss
I must be missing something.....
