western colorado
Usable feed usually gets dumped and left to rot. I went on a search for cull potatoes today and came up empty handed...that is very unusual. Some of them are contracted as high as $330/ton on a DM basis every bit of them are contracted. In this area everyone got spooked with high corn and low hay production last year. The tables have turned with low priced corn and very avalible hay. Most byproduct feed sources will be unused or very cheap come the first of the year. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out. Now that feeders have exploited cheap feed sources will they keep using them? Or go to the basics?
