Own small farm near Booneville, MS | One of the main reasons fleets run 9 or 10 speeds is because the "truck driver training school 'graduates'" would tear up a 13 before they got it out of the terminal yard. That being said, I spent 5 or 6 years driving 9's and 10's while running with drivers that had 13's. Our top gear ratios were the same. Pulling similar loads they could beat me to the top of the hill because they could split their top gear while I had to wait longer for my engine to lug down to the "down shift point." Other than that I could tell very little difference in the capabilities of the trucks. |
