I, like so many others have been wondering why some still held old crop corn. Well, if they sell the corn they need to lift the loan and there are all sorts of good business reasons not to do so at this time.

If we keep at this we may eventually begin to understand this thing.

Meanwhile, I understand that the South Americans can sell the US corn crop but can they be reasonably expected to deliver it. As far as I know there are no delivery points in South America. I know it maybe nit-picking but if they sold the crop at say $4.80 and come March enough US producers are still holding out for some higher price it may not work out so well for the South Americans. Not only will they need to buy the contract but they will need to pay for it with US dollars against a very weak REAL.
