I looked at some May 17 planting yesterday that is unfortunately racing to the finish.  Kernel counts are still good, but depth is going away.  I'm going to track this pretty closely, but I think it will black layer something like 200 GDUs before that hybrid is supposed to be mature.  It's going to be OK corn, but a far cry from what it could have been with a 2" soaker in August.
