Lots of cows went to slaughter the last 2 years due to drought. As previously mentioned, about 25% of Texas cows have left. Also, if you were traveling during the middle of the day, due to the heat most cows would be shaded up in the woods and hard to see. During the summer most grazing is done in the early morning and late afternoon.
