Its variety specific. Most of the time, if you have an ear that is 20 around, you'll need to use 90-100k kernals. If its 14-16 around with deep kernals, you'll probably see 80k.
I just use 90 most of the time. Then I always say + or- 10bpa either way. Last year the crop was farther along and it was a little easier to judge, but I got within 3 bpa on a couple fields. Almost impossible to do this year with thin stands and drownouts. We will have lighter corn here this year, but its pretty tough to beat some of the 60-63 lb stuff from last year. |
