I raised hogs for 30 years because corn was too cheap. The farm program worked well for me as a hog producer way back when. raise a crop with manure, put it under loan and buy it back .10 to .50 cheaper. It worked better for a livestock guy then a straight crop farmer. being a dollar isn't worth much anymore, I don't think 5-6 dollar corn is out of line. I don't own any hogs anymore, but do feed some for a neighbor, and when he decides to quit I will more then likely push the barns down. The whole hog industry went to heck in a hand basket, starting with the packer contracts, and guys willing to spend a million dollars for a fertilizer source, that by the way isn't even close to what it use to be.
