ne MD | We have a 451. Very similar to a 450. We like it. Very simple. No wobble gear box to maintain. The whole sickle drive is open easy and simple to repair. It has six grease fittings on the bearing ends of the three links in the head, in addition to the usual ones elsewhere. The Amish around here use a lot of trailed 456 ones. The availability of aftermarket (reasonably priced) repair parts is very good on these NH mowers, as an Amish company in Lancaster county PA makes most of them themselves. The lift for the cutterbar on the John Deere and the NH mounted ones are different. I think John Deere run a cable or chain to the tractor drawbar. NH uses a U shaped yoke that attaches to your toplink bracket on the tractor, then the toplink goes between mower and that U shaped yoke. As long as your tractor uses a regular toplink there should be no problems with the NH. NH had to make a kit to fit some tractors like a 1550 or 1650 Oliver that had a strange kind of toplink. Almost forgot to mention NH has a very handy pair of stands to lower when removing from tractor. These stands are a big help in keeping the mower upright when removed from the tractor. Make sure they are present as they can fall out and get lost. I prefer to use the middle holes on ours when they are lowered to remove from the tractor. It was too tippy to let these stands down all the way. You put them all the way up when mowing. JD does not have these. You will probably want to have a operators manual to figure out the adjustments the first time you mount them though. | |
