Need to remember that all the cows that got killed last fall winter did not raise a calf this summer! The supply of calves is going down as the drought continues......still having more human babies who will like there protein...
I hope so. Seems like the trend is always towards eating more tofu, veggie burgers, Soylent Green or whatever in hell they eat. No wonder people in urban areas act so weird, they aren't getting any proper food... ;)
I agree with the cow numbers being down. Seems a lot of smaller ranches have cut back, or sold cows completely off. Larger ranches that are left are very heavily dependent upon federal grazing leases, something we know is going to get cut/go away more in the future. I think the profit margin in cow/calf is going to have to improve considerably to get many people interested in getting back into it and afford the pasture needed. |
