| There are so-called Bereavement Fares, but there are a coupla catches. First, the discounts are often off the full fare (you pay full fare and then you get a refund later for the 'discount'), so you may not get a much better 'deal' than you would get if you just booked your ticket normally. Also, you will probably have to show some proof, meaning you will have to ask your (also bereaved) relative to provide a copy of the Death Certificate, a none-too-delicate thing to have to ask at this (that) moment.
An alternative would be to speak to someone at the funeral home. They may be able to provide enough documentation for you to ask for some refund from the airline after you get back home. Could take months to get your 'discount'.
If you do go through the hoops, and you need to make any flight connections that include layovers, do carry a copy of that Death Certificate with you. It will probably get you into an airline lounge during your layover, even if you're not a member or a frequent flyer. | |
