| Minnesota is asking to double the beef checkoff to $2.00 a head. So I called the MN beef council to have them send me a ballot to vote on it.They informed me I needed to certify before I could get a ballot.I told them I pay $1.00 a head on all cattle marketed and receive a letter every year asking to send any fees I might owe for any private treaty cattle sold. Now they don't know if I am a beef producer when it comes to voting. He also said only one vote per address.I have 2 teenage sons and they have their own pens of steers.Isnt it ironic that they can pay the checkoff fee but are unable to vote?Well I didn't get a ballot ,but he did send a ballot request form to fill out and send back..I wonder if the average livestock producer will take the time to jump through the hoops to vote on this,or just notice his next check that the checkoff fee has doubled?Personally I think that is what they are counting on.
