Subject: Re: Grazing cover crops

NC Kansas
We are in NC Kansas and few in the area use a mix of turnips and/or radish and oats and peas... millett or sudan are also good in a mix. Most are planted by now (to get the most tonnage) into wheat stubble and you can get on them and graze in November usually. The radish turnips oats and peas can stay green even after it gets a little frosty... Our mix has been about 4-5 lbs of radish 1-1.5 bu of oats and about 20-25 lbs of peas (we've used spring forage and austrian winter for pea variety). we are ususally trying to get by on less than $20/acre seed cost...if you are willing to spend more you could add more species or just add more of the above.
