Subject: Harvesting skip row corn?

Hazelton, Kansas 6.75 miles N of Crowbar
Has anyone had experience harvesting skip row corn? I planted with a 12r30 planter IXIIXIIXIIXI pattern. I harvested 80 ac of skip row with a 8r30 Lee-Way last fall with fairly good results. I am not real good at keeping the guess rows perfect and that lead to some harvest loss. I have a little over 300ac to harvest this year. I am considering purchasing a "real" corn head, finding or building a 12r30 Lee-way/Ray-Mac set up( I love them for flowers), or using what I have. I am thinking a 12r corn head would be heavy, a lot of moving parts on the skip rows (maybe removing gathering chains etc) and rather expensive for low yield dryland corn. Combine threwput capacity is not a problemn. Header weight could be (CIH 1688). Do you know anyone that has harvested skip row and how did they/you get along? TIA Cheers
