Impellers and alfalfa don't mix....it knocks all the leaves off. What you want for alfalfa are the rubber intermeshing conditioning/crimping rolls.
It doesn't knock ALL the leaves off. I think I remember seeing somewhere that you can expect something like 5% extra alfalfa leaf loss using impeller over rubber rolls. If you're growing pure alfalfa dairy hay, there is no reason you would want an impeller machine. If you're making beef hay with varying amounts of alfalfa in it, it's plenty good enough. |
