Depends on the terrain, how straight the run and how tight you pull the wire and what sort of wire you are using. I use aluminum wire on reels for temporary fences because it doesn't stretch and sag as much as poly and is lighter to carry than a big reel full of steel wire. Usually 10 or 12 paces between pigtail step ins works well, maybe 25 or 30 ft but again depends on the above factors. Hope this helps. Jim
