Talk to a couple local feed dealers and see if anything is out there for contracts. Have them run a projection on building and operating costs and see how long it takes to pay it off. Be careful of cost overruns on the building! Don't forget to figure for a wide driveway and rock, propane tank, figure out if you want an automatic backup generator or if you can get buy with a pto model. Make sure to figure for property tax, insurance, repairs, labor to load, vaccinate, and wash the barn. Check the cost to hook up utilities. Yardage rates have been flat to lower the last few years. I get $41/space on wean to finish with me providing all propane and comfort mats, not sure if you can get that today. Feeder to finish is in the $35 to $37 range.
The manure is what makes it work. If you don't have crops or a buyer for the manure its not worth doing.
