In my old JD 680 spreader I just ripped the old floor out and rebuilt with steel plate. Can't remember if I used 5/16" or 3/8" I'm thinking it was 3/8". Just built up stringers with tubing to space floor up to level. Welded it all in, better than the old wood. It will out last the rest of the spreader.
