Gary, the south side will be open for most of the length to feed hay and one bay will have a creep gate to let calves inside a small area during bad spring weather.

How much concrete (feet out from the posts) would be the minimum along the guard rail? 8-10-12 ft?  There will be an 8 ft roof overhang with gutters which is the most I can get without another row of posts which I don't want.  The idea is I can run a blade along the outside to clean it off.
