| Good question, as I am a young guy in the same situation as you. The row crop land that has been selling has caused pasture land to double or triple, even though you can't make as much with cattle. $1700 on up for pasture that runs 5 acres per pair, I don't see how that works, and I can't afford that. The good pasture that you could do 3 or 4 acres per pair is being plowed up anyways. If you buy 700 acres with a conservative number, say $1000 per acre, you would have a total of $700,000. You then need at least 20% down for a loan, so you need $140,000 cash. How does someone starting out have $140,000? I am lucky to already be able to rent land from family that has been owned for over 100 years, and rent some other pasture. If someone has an answer then I am curious to what it is. | |
