Probably a hematoma. Take it to your vet, he will poke it with a needle. If it is full of blood, probably a hematoma, and you can drain some but most likely the swelling will go down in a few weeks.
Stop using big words for a bruise. You're sounding like my wife as she says that word often. It's a bruise dang it! LoL :)
I would tend to agree with you on what it is though. Don't know how Mark can tell it is soft from a picture?
