I use meadow brome all the time. It is great for first cut with alfalfa. Doesn't form a sod like smooth brome would. Once it heads out in first cut the second cut is lower yielding and it basically just puts out leaves. Quality is good but by itself yield is low. That's why we grow it with alfalfa. 1st cut is quite a bit of grass and second cut is mostly alfalfa, especially if it's dry.
Also excellent for rotational grazing
