Subject: RE: hog buildings

WCIL

We had a 200 sow farrow to finish.  46 farrowing crates.  Nursery,  2 smaller finishing building.    One finishing bldg is 38 years old but in very good shape.  Other is 15 years old.    We use our nursery and then take to the finishing buildings.
Some things we had to do to the finishers for contracting:   soaker system,  furnaces, new curtains,  raised the fencing,(280#ers are alot taller than the 245 #ers it was built for, concrete repair.

Nursery only needed regular maintanence to start using again.
Farrrowing house:  2 farrowing rooms are connected to nursery.  Water line goes through one farrowing room so it is now storage for stuff we don't want to freeze and to get stuff out of our wet basement.   Old pull together is to be torn down.

There seemed to be a lot of competition for us and our buildings.    We contract for a hog farmer that has extra shares in a sow coop.   Our rules are:   Take care of them like they were your own.    Some days I refer to them as  MY pigs.

Moving 425 pigs from the nursery to the finishing building today  with tractor and hog hauler.  Half done... Time get going again.

Do you have hog experience and knowledge?     Can you do your own maintenance?   If no to both questions... tear them down.
