Subject: ? on 1990 ccs population monitoring

Bardstown, Ky
I have a new to me 1990 ccs air seeder. It has an sm500 monitor that according to the manual is capable of doing population monitoring. It has the cabling to use a 350 or something to monitor the population,( which I do not have), but not to use the 500. I have done some research and I think all I need is a module and a wiring harness and the sm 500 will do the monitoring. My question is why does everyone use a 350 for the population monitor when the 500 is capable? If my research is right, for $ 1200 I can have the 500 do it, around 3-400 dollars will buy a 350 but then I have another monitor in my cab. Just wondering why everyone seems to go with the 2 monitor scenario? Thanks
