south central IOWA | No, ours drops down too. Found the spring clips after we took the roof off. Didn't know they were there.
If I was replacing a blower motor I might just drop the unit down but if I was doing much else like replacing hoses or wiring I would take the roof off. It isn't that hard to do and would be easier with the screws in there now.
If I remember correctly, I think our serial number is either 231 or 321.
