It's tough on them for sure especially at that weight. The lightest we will buy is 350#, and i am skeptical about those. Some years we've had some luck with them and pulled very few, other years they are a problem. We dont like buying that weight, but at time have to cause that's what the market dictates.
We have had some tweaks to our management program, especially if those calves are not responding. And there are time you put everything you got at him and he dont respond, like you said. When that happens, we kick them out on some fresh grass and let em be. We've had some pretty good luck doing that, but you aren't going to save them all. If you have em, you are going to loose them!
