Berlin, Germany | Durability is a point. And it certainly depends mainly on one point: stones. They don't like stones / rocks as they tend to break when they hit a stone.
Anyway, I don't think that this concept is rely a big thing in the US or Canada as:
- you can't drive fast, max. 7 ml/h
- working width: our largest over here, as we are limited to 10 feet road transport restriction are 60 feet
- investment cost: a 60 feet unit, incl. a 6000 l tank can run well above 120ooo € / 156ooo US$
so we use them for crops like:
winter wheat: with 8000+ kg/ha
Oil seed rape: with 4000+ kg/ha
The main reason for popularity are:
- water sheds where they are "sponsored" as it's the most efficient way to get nitrate levels in the ground water down
- availability of "cheap" N as liquid ammonium Sulfate, the so called ASL solution with 8% N & 9% S.
