I've only dealt with pivots a few times, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

We just planted half the field alongside the pivot, move the pivot onto what you have planted, and then plant the other side. Never had to get underneath it and never have to swoop around the towers. Let it move while planting and you don't lose any time.
