Yes - there could be.
What killed the other trees & bushes? Was it a soil borne disease like verticillium wilt or one of the many others? Was it a root killing or stem girdling gall or nematode? If so planting another tree - bush of a variety that can get it also would be a poor decision! If the death was old age or winter kill, you probably would be ok. I suggest a totall different species if you decide to. Example don't replace a prematurily dead maple with another maple.
