Subject: Self Feeder with electric Fence

North Central Kansas
I started feeding my pile of ground hay. So far it's working good. I have to go along with a pitch fork and knock down some hay so it won't fall down as they eat. Just trying to balance keeping them satisfied and cleaning up the hay. Set some good corners, and put a shut off switch at one of the corners if you are tying it into more fence so you can work on the feeder without shutting off your whole fence. I have two step in posts on each side to help hold it up. They are easy to move as they eat the pile. I was told to use barbwire on the ends but I could not get the barbwire tight enough to suit me. The barbs would help keep the side wires from sliding in, but I am having no trouble with them respecting the wire. I haven't measured the pile but I thing it is about 90 feet long with 90 bales of cane/millet hay, and I am feeding 58 cows from it. I will probably add my 12 yearling heifers in a couple weeks because there is plenty of room and they don't eat at the same time.
