I had the same problem a few years ago, I used Pit Charger to break it up. http://www.pitcharger.com/. I went heavy the first time and then treated regularly after that. From the videos I've seen MTM will work, I am pretty sure sludge away will work fine also. The important part is that once you get the crust broken up is to keep treating to prevent it from happening.
