Subject: What logically will rye seed do, that was not germinated last fall?

Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577

We sowed winter rye seed late last fall.........various reasons, but suffice it to say it was not timely.

In several places we are seeing the seed on top of the ground now.  I suspect the covering thin layer of soil has washed down from around the seed thru the snow thaws we have had this past winter.

I also suspect that much of this rye will germinate this spring.

Now........the question..............(1)   since the rye had not germinated before winter, it would not have vernalized..........and therefore will not bear seed...........correct?
(2)  I assume the rye will function as spring-planted cereal rye, and just die about July-Aug??  Or, will it likely to continue to grow, but just not bear seeds?

Thanks.
