| It's not just you.
In my experience, the butt end is the only part of the pole that is adequately treated. Most times, the part of the the poles that were in the ground show little if any rot. Actually look like new. The rest of the pole can be quite fatigued by years of wind.
I had one break off at the ground when I tried to swing the gate shut on a cow. She just busted off a 12" diameter post like it was a toothpick and went on. | |
