Texas/New Mexico Stateline | Dryland wheat is all but gone here. Only a few hardy patches left and after Saturdays 60 mph winds, won't be around much longer. Had rail cars turned over in Easter New Mexico due to the hard winds.
Low temps 17-20 F two nights in a row, but the irrigated wheat was just starting to joint it looks like. I don't have any, but I would expect the heads to be 3-4 inches above ground level and 1/4-1/2 long. Maybe ok, if you had it pretty wet. I would definitely be concerned about it.
Huge majority of irrigated wheat will be cut for silage or baled or grazed off. Won't be very many combines running in June. |
