Are you talking about an active downforce system or ?

As long as you have gravity and/or perhaps springs on your row units I'm pretty sure you've planted with downforce.

Not really something that is easy to generate hard recommendations on, as it is so site/condition specific. I think thats why the active systems have appeal, how beneficial they are is really going to depend on your planting conditions and how much they vary.
