Subject: RE: How much freeze can wheat in the boot stage take?

Years ago we had a cold event of 3 nights were temps got as low as 26 and our winter wheat was in the boot. The following week the fields had a dull green look and things smelled like freshly cut hay. We were pretty worried all year up to harvest. We ended up cutting an average crop but an interesting thing was, that all the lowest elevation spots in the fields yielded almost nothing. The coldest air had settled into those low spots and did the most damage.
How much wheat in the nation is that far along?

Wind and moisture conditions can make a big difference on how much damage occurs. Good luck.
