Wow, dad started in the 50s following the lows between the hills, no pattern at all in our rolling hills.

Did small patches of pattern in the 70s and 80s, he was 100 or 120 spaced, but these were 3 lines spaced to cover 5 acre valley plots. One down the middle to drain the valley, one on each side to stop the water 1/2 way down the hill.....

Now doing 80 foot spacings. Figure the next guy can come in and split them if he wants, this makes good farmland here in our clay for me. Some neighbors are doing 70 foot spacings, I hear of closer but also get questions about why bother with patterns at all, so think the 70 or 80 is still the common way here.
